Green Meadow United Methodist Church, Alcoa, Tennessee

Our view of becoming a disciple

The community of faith at Green Meadow United Methodist Church is a Covenant Community where we build relationships -- inside and outside of the Community. We recognize and embrace each other's gifts and passions, share our lives, offer ourselves in service inside and outside of the church walls, and pray for one another.

Our understanding of discipleship can be found in John Wesley's Quadrilateral. "Wesley believed that the living core of the Christian faith was revealed in Scripture, illumined by tradition, vivified in personal experience, and confirmed by reason. Scripture [however] is primary, revealing the Word of God ‘so far as it is necessary for our salvation.’” ("United Methodist Book of Discipline 2004," p77)

Scripture, as it is found in the Old and New Testaments of the Holy Bible.

Tradition, the foundation of which is found in the 2,000-year history of the Church.

Reason, which is rational thinking and sensible interpretation.

Experience, individually and communal.

Worship, Mission, Discipleship

We also believe, with Wesley, that there is "no holiness without social holiness." So, we look for ways to put "feet to the Gospel," in seeking and serving the least, the last and the lost.
